Sabrina Basten’s work generally consists of big installations in which space plays an equal role to the operation she performs. Important materials in her work are wool, fabric and thread, which she uses in space filling installations in an almost extreme obsessively repetitive way.

‘The physical interaction with my work is important. Even when you’re not surrounded by the installtion, you’ll still be in relation with the operation I performed. The work gets it’s meaning from the individual experience from the audience. Personal experience is a repetitive theme in my work. I create a lot of space for the spectator. (..) During the process of my work, I‘m the one who determines, I create the installations the way I want to. In that way I come closest to being me. If I work there is no fear.

Although the clothing made by Basten under the name BRUNO are not related to her installations in the sense of dimensions and time they can be related in a way.
“I’m not as a fashion victim actually, so I’m not really concerned with fashion in that sense. The material [wool] is close to me. I could make cabinets, but I make clothing just because I can. (..) Surprise also plays a role. Sometimes I sew something wrong which leads to an opening idea for making a shoe, whereas I originally wanted to make a handwarmer. These are precisely the things that make the process interesting, giving that item a unique character.
