Ingrid de Lugt

Ingrid de Lugt studied graphic design at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam. She graduated in 2002 and from then on she focused on illustration.
She now works as a freelance illustrator on commercial, editorial and cultural projects. She has also made autonomous work for a multiple of group exhibitions.
With her illustrations she creates her own graphic world. This world is usually full of sweetness, happiness and ‘kawaii’ and floats between the seriousness of art and the naivety of childlike imagination.

Her autonomous work can be categorized as Low Brow or Pop Surrealistic. As a child growing up in the seemingly safe suburbs the unfairness in the world, shown by the news on TV, never made her really want to grow up. Now as a grown up artist, childhood icons and pop culture are intentionally her biggest influences. Her work is a counter reaction to what she finds so unfair in the world and what is still projected onto all of us in the daily news.

For the Bart Store she has this far created numerous limited edition button designs and handmade linoleum printed handkerchiefs.
