The Finnish artist Laura Lappi was born in 1979 in Lahti, Finland and graduated in 2006 from the AKI, ArtEZ academie of visual arts. Her background is in mixed media where she has been mainly engaged in video performances, video art and drawings. She also uses installations and sculptures as well as written and spoken text as a medium. Her own life experiences are the main inspiration of her work, although there is not an obvious connection between her own life and the work itself.

‘The end of the childhood, torturing self-analysis and fear are the starting points for most of my work. Fear about not being accepted the way I am and fear about not being able to control myself. How I am trying to manage with the expectations and requirements which are put on me or that I assume to be put on me.‘
